ON Monday night, 16 November at around 9pm, a 32-year-old women was robbed on the N2 south Umgababa off-ramp.

According to Netcare 911 PRO, Chris Botha paramedics received a call for an accident on the N2 south at Umgababa.
Reports from the scene indicate that robbers had placed rocks across the road about 400 metres before the Umgababa off-ramp.

“A lady was traveling to Umkomaas when she hit the rocks, spun out and came to rest in the veld. Three men then confronted her and robbed her of her belongings,” Botha reported.

Umkomaas SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sheik said the complainant was driving a white Kia Picanto and landed on the side of the road in an attempt to avoid the rocks placed on the off-ramp.

“When she got out of the vehicle, three black males approached her and demanded her cellphone. The suspects took her Blackberry and fled on foot. The complainant then managed to ran away and seek help,” Sheik said. The complainant was hospitalised, but was unable to identify the perpetrators because it was dark.

A case of attempted murder and robbery has been opened. Station commander Colonel P.N. Govender, told people travelling on the freeway to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to SAPS.

SAPS also requested that anyone with information must contact Umkomaas detectives on 039 973 6100.
