ARE you looking for something to do in the run-up to Valentine’s Day, Sunday 14 February Try one of these five options ranging from entertainment, to classic and adventurous.


The Botanical Gardens has become known for its amazing Valentine’s Day concerts. This year is likely to be the same with acoustic music at the lake by The Subway Run and a Valentine's Open Air Cinema featuring the movie: Love Actually. The event runs from Friday to Sunday. Music starts at 5pm until 7pm, thereafter the movie will start. Gates open at 4pm for pre-sold ticket holders and 5pm for on-the-day sales.

Ticket prices are R120 for adults (pre-sold) and R150 (on the day) and children between eight and 12 pay R60, while those under eight get in free. Tickets are available at Webtickets or at the information office of the Durban Botanic Gardens.


If “local is lekker” is your vibe, enjoy a Valentine’s dinner with entertainment by Adelei Jade, on Saturday 13 February in the Lords and Legends function hall.

Dinner starts at 7pm until 10 pm. Costs are R180 per person and includes a three-course meal. Enjoy butternut soup with fresh cream and croutons for a starter. Topside beef and smoked roast chicken with two vegetables in season, new potatoes and savoury rice will be served for mains. Finish with Malva pudding and fresh cream. Cash bar available.

The Family Players - Allan Quihampton, Derek Pearce, Greg Baptie, Graham Goodwin and Roland Stansell and guest artists Alaska Hilton and Trevor Gandy present the new Valentine show - Bar Flies at the Rhumbelow Theatre, 42 Cunningham Road, Umbilo.

The girls share their down and outs as they pop in and out of their local bar singing about their trials and tribulations on and off the streets of Umbilo. This is a hilarious mix of some of the funniest comedy drag mime you will see at the Rhumbelow Theatre.

Show times are Friday 12 and Saturday 13 February, show starts 8pm, a Sunday matinee at 2pm and evening show at 6.30pm. The venue opens 90 minutes before for picnic dinner.
