Government should listen to Buthelezi

2016-03-02 06:00

I WOULD like to congratulate Inkosi Mangosuthu Buthelezi as president of the Inkatha Freedom Party for showing classical political maturity when he delivered a response to President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation Address.

Shenge was spot-on when he said: “It is better to be frank with our people, so that they will know how long the night will last.”

We also thank him for supporting Zuma in principle, as he said: “That would take bold policy decisions when the president addresses the disastrous financial situation of the state-owned enterprises.”

Shenge was right when he reminded Parliament that “we will struggle to attract foreign investment for as long as there is policy uncertainty”.

It is a well-known public secret that by the very nature of business and industry, the captains need to plough in their money where there is stability because that assures them that there will be no loss or risk of any sort.

It is therefore imperative that Zuma and his government take seriously the suggestions and contribution of Shenge in this country, most particularly in Parliament. They are fortunate that he is at their disposal. We hope that Zuma and his government will utilise Buthelezi’s wisdom, which has stood the test of time. When they seek advice from him it will not be for the purpose of promoting him, as others think, but rather for the sole benefit and development of the country. Shenge shows that he is a seasoned politician.
