A TOTAL of 18 students from Rising Sun JKA Karate Academy competed at the JKA KZN Provincial Tournament on 30 April, at St Mary’s DSG in Kloof.

This was the first time that JKA have introduced the provincials and it proved to be extremely successful.

Training under Sensei James Pretorius and Sensei Michael Thompson, both 3rd Dan black belts, 18 Rising Sun JKA students brought home 36 medals (two each for kata and kumite – 21 gold, eight silver and seven bronze. Nine of the Rising Sun students won double gold. They have all been awarded their JKA KZN colours and will now be competing at the JKA nationals in Johannesburg on 20-21 May at the Standard Bank Arena.
