KWAMAKHUTHA police, who were investigating a case of murder, arrested an alleged murder suspect on 27 November.

“The suspect was arrested this week after members followed up information about his whereabouts. The arrested suspect (26) is due to appear in the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court today,” said Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala.

On 12 April, the victim, Mondli Mthembu (25) was on his way to a nearby shop in A section, KwaMakhutha, when he was approached by the suspect.
It is alleged that the suspect demanded cash from the victim and he replied that he had none. The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim and he was rushed to hospital where he later died of his injuries.
A case of murder was opened at KwaMakhutha police station for further investigation.

Through the hard work and dedication of the SAPS, the suspect was arrested seven months later, having evaded the police prior to this.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the arrest of the suspect.
“You can run but you cannot evade the long arm of the law.
“I want to encourage the community to keep us informed about the whereabouts of wanted criminals in their areas,” she said.
