Lifeguard resuscitates near-drowning child

2016-01-27 06:00

ON 21 January the quick action of a lifeguard resulted in the resuscitation of a near-drowning victim.

“At 4.42pm Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a drowning incident at a public pool in Isipingo.
Reports from the scene indicate that an eight-year-old boy was swimming when he got into difficulty and his unresponsive body sunk to the bottom of the pool. A lifeguard immediately noticed the problem and dived into the pool. After he pulled the child out of the water, he started cardio pulmonary resuscitation.
Paramedics arrived and found that the quick action resulted in the lifeguards successfully resuscitating the child,” Chris Botha, media liaison officer, Netcare 911 said.
Medics examined the child and found him to be in a stable condition with near-drowning symptoms. The boy was stabilised before taking him to hospital.
