Matric exam tips

2016-10-26 06:00

THE fourth term is by far the busiest for everyone.

Teachers are rounding up the years work and preparing pupils for exams by going through past exam papers.

Pupils are still busy with sport and cultural activities, whereas parents are as usual, trying to fit in all in a days work.

So how can we support each other during this stressful period?

Parents and care givers:

Quality time

Let us make extra time be with our children.

Yes, time is always a factor as we are often juggling so many activities under normal circumstances, what to speak of extra time that is now required.

Many may think that this is almost impossible, but all it will take is just a few minutes of quality time that is offered to a child and you will notice a big difference.

Use this time to offer support by lending a listening ear.

Speak words of wisdom. The best method under any circumstance is to offer love. Reassure your child that all you want is for him or her to be the best that they can be. Do not set any benchmarks.

Do not use others as an example, this will distance your child and there is a chance that there will be hostility and remorse.

Study time-table and wholesome eating

Rather use love in all you do, especially during the exam period.

Assist your child by preparing a structured study time-table, which allows for breaks in-between and enough time for rest.

Prepare healthy, wholesome meals which will assist in-building immunity so the body and mind will be strong.

Reach out to your family. They are your support network and the people who will love you through the most difficult time. Talk to your care givers, explain challenges and reveal your mind. They are there to help you.

Prepare well. Do not waste time dwelling on time that has past. You may feel disillusioned if you did not work at your best during the first three terms, but do not give up hope.

Work at your best, connect with your teachers and other pupils for assistance. The end is at sight, and this is the time to give your 100%. Never give up, and have faith in your potential and ability.

Use this week to create a study time-table, introduce quality time and prepare nutritious meals.

Good luck.
