THE recent protests that have taken place at the universities have certainly got the attention that they were intended for. However, the attention has been very negative and controversial.

It causes one to ponder on whether Generation Y and Z, which differ very slightly, are ready to lead, sustain, advocate and just simply live in peace.

We are considered the technologically advanced generation that founded, operates and expresses on social media.

Generation Y and Z in South Africa are actually very educated and knowledgeable individuals.

However, knowledge without guidance can be severely detrimental.

A perfect example is depicted when Albert Einstein revolutionised physics only for it to be distorted into nuclear weaponry.

The hope I have for my generation is that as our forefront dawns, we are able to bring about change by going back to practising simple fundamentals - respecting hierarchy in the school, work and home environments, taking correct guidance and definitely not holding on to a past that we had no part of.

If we could only allow ourselves to be visionaries for good common causes, I believe we have the ability to be greater than former generations.
