FOR 18 months, Mother of Peace Illovo has been seeking ways to expand their outreach in line with their mission of “building families, building a nation”.

“We are often seen as a home for orphaned and vulnerable children, but we are more than that, we exist to restore the family structure and our focus is on giving a child a home and family, providing educational programmes and psycho social support.
“We strive to develop young children through various experiences and hosting thought-provoking workshops and fun activities that leave people appreciating what they have, encouraging them to be in service of just providing a platform for inspiration is what we endeavour,” said Iris Canham general manager.

This youth month MoP are hosting an inspiring fun workshop for children aged seven to 10, which combines craft, dramatisation, life skills and stories that tackle issue on diversity, strength and inner beauty.

“With what we have been encountering in our country in recent months, children, our future leaders can become confused and burdened by events they may not understand, but reminding them that they can be the change they want to see in the world provides a strong foundation for inspiring leadership,” said Canham.

The workshop offers children an experience to appreciate differences, to learn about others, respect and the essence of humanity - that we are on a journey to discover our purpose and can share our gifts and talents with others.

The workshop is facilitated by award-winning teacher Thandazou Mkwanazi and creative social worker Mallory Pfaff from Holland.
If you want to sponsor anything for lunch, juice, wool and craft material or to make a booking, contact Canham at or 031 916 2299.

The workshop is on Tuesday, 28 June from 9am to 4pm at the MoP Craft Studio, 197 Old Mill Road, Lower Illovo. A donation of R50 is required.
