New cycling forum formed

2016-03-02 06:00

AFTER an incident on the M4, a body - eThekwini Cycle Safe Forum - has been formed to deal with motorists and cyclists. During a meeting on 24 February, the following was decided:

While riding, and you notice any of the following, email the information to the municipality on eservices@durban.

• If you see a pothole, take a photo with the nearest address and send it.

• If a light is not working, get the pole number.

• If it’s a tree, grass or bush crossing the path - take a photo with nearest address.

It will also make it easier for the officials to sort out the issues if you have geo-tagging on the photo.

They have to address the issue within six days or they have to account for why it hasn't been done.

Save this in your phone, share it and use the service, it helps every road user.

Our mountain bikers love to ride the manicured tracks at Lords and Legends which are well maintained by the club’s chairman, Barry Walker. There has been, however, some confusion with regards to who has right of way – riders, runners or cows?

The use of the track is not only for MTB riders. Mambas have booked the track for the club to ride it on Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm. The rest of the time it will be used by Amanzimtoti Athletic Club for the use of their cross-country. Walkers are welcome with or without dogs.

We need to be aware of the rules of the track, which are:

• Run or walk in the opposite direction of riders so that each can see the other, and try not to crash.

The matter has been brought up with the Amanzimtoti Sports Centre and the idea of signage is being addressed.

In the meantime, let’s all use the track together and be aware of others. This includes cows and their land mines.

Forum was formed after a cycling incident on the M4. A meeting was held and tips for cyclists was decided upon
