WINNER of the Mrs Toddlers and Tiaras pageant, and also claiming the title of their ambassador, Simone Wilson spoke to the Fever’s Purnal Poonusamy about the values the competition upholds.

  • Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
  • I am Simone Wilson. I am 30-years old and am from Amanzimtoti. I did my schooling at George Campbell school of Technology and I am a qualified Draughts person working in the manufacturing and fabrication department of a pump company. I love my job. I enjoy any extreme sports when I have the opportunity.

PP: Can you give us some insight into the competition?

SW: The competition was presented by Crystal Carriage Events and it is all for charity. Not just the children but poor and old people as well.

PP: What motivated you to participate?

SW: I feel that everyone that is able to must give back to the community. Everyone’s contribution helps, even if it’s helping one person. Feeding our old people, for they are the people that lay the foundation for us and our children, and feeding our children, because they are our future, is a goal that everyone should work towards.

PP: When you were selected as Mrs Toddlers and Tiaras, and as their ambassador, what were some of the key roles you had to fulfil?

SW: We got together with all the finalists to do donations of food etc. to the St Martin’s Children’s Home in Glenwood. Right now we are working on Ubunto, which will be for Christmas presents for the children that can’t afford any. We also had to collect raffle forms monthly and that was presented to the children’s home at the end.

PP: What do you plan on doing within the community after winning these titles?

S W: Being Mrs Toddlers and Tiaras 2018, I will be involved in a lot of events. I did the International Coastal Clean-up in Amanzimtoti recently. It is amazing to see that the community can work together to clean our environment for us and our children. I am also involved in the Cupcakes For Kids with Cancer which was at the Galleria Mall on September 29. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported this event — either by bringing cupcakes to sell or to buy.

PP: Have you worked with charities in relation with the competition or on your own?

SW: I was involved in all sorts of charities previously, long before the competition as well. I took some time for myself, moved, got married and started a family and would now like to start contributing to the community once again.

PP: Can you tell us a bit about your family life?

SW: I am a mother of a very energetic three-year old and wife to a loving, entertaining husband. We love spending our weekends together with family and doing outdoor sports.

PP: How do you juggle family, work, and the title?

SW: I do have an amazing support system in my life and I am prepared to be a support system to people that need it.

PP: What are your plans for the future?

SW: For the next year I will be actively participating in the charities that Crystal Carriage events are involved in. I will make myself available to anyone that requires assistance in any charity event.

PP: Do you have a message to the community?

SW: Our children are the future and we need to leave them a positive legacy. Never look down on anyone, unless you are helping them up.

PP: Anything you would like to add

SW: The Malvern Children’s Home is also in need of something to put on the bread. The bread is donated, but nothing to put on it for their school sandwiches. Our children are the future and we need to leave them a positive legacy. Also, if the community can donate clothes and food we will be so grateful. Christmas is coming up and there will be lots of people that won’t have a Christmas meal and not even to mention no presents.
