Panic awareness day

2018-07-18 06:02

If suffering from a panic attack, the following are tips to ease the process:

- Take a “time out” and slow down. Slow breathing and slow the racing thoughts;

- Focus on the present, concentrate on an object nearby and notice every detail. What does it look like, what does it smell like and what does it feel like?

- Count backwards from 20;

- Take a deep breath and hold it in as long as possible;

- Remember that panic attacks always end;

- Stretch the body — head to toe.

- Remember that panic attacks are not dangerous;

- If possible, take a walk or talk to someone if there’s somebody around; and

- Recall a positive memory or a similar situation which was handled well.
