THE Sapphire Coast Tourism Photo Competition is back by popular demand.

The competition commenced on July 1 and will end on June 30, 2019.

The competition shall highlight the word “Sapphire Coast” and will consist of 12 different themes, divided into one theme per month, each based on a letter from the Sapphire Coast name.

As the “Sapphire Coast” consists of 13 letters, one month will be allocated with two letters.

The theme for July, to highlight the letter “S”, will stand for “Sardine Splash” and the public is encouraged to submit photographs of sardine activity taking place within the Sapphire Coast region.

As part of the eThekwini Municipality, the Sapphire Coast covers an area stretching from the eZimbogintwini River north of Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti to the Mahlongwa River, south of Croc World in Clansthal.

The idea of the competition is to build up a stock of amazing photographs and footage (drawings/ videos, etc.) within the Sapphire Coast Region to be used in advertising by Sapphire Coast Tourism and, at the same time, to develop the skills of “amature” photographers/artists in the region.

Each month, the winning entry will be featured in Amanzimtoti Fever. There will also be a R 1 000 monthly prize, as well as lucky draw/spot prizes up for grabs, including six shark cage dives (sponsored by Aliwal Shoal Scuba).

Sapphire Coasters can submit their monthly entries online on the official Sapphire Coast Photo Comp Facebook page. Entries will also be accepted via e-mail at or

Images must have been taken in the Sapphire Coast region and must adhere to the minimum size requirement of 1 MB per image.
