CHILDREN from Mother of Peace (MoP) Pre-primary and primary school were pleasantly surprised when Debonairs Pizza Amanzimtoti visited the school on Tuesday, October 23 to serve lunch.

A shift from the standard lunch and a treat, the children were in their element as they were expecting the usual cooks, but instead Nicole Chetty and her team arrived with a pizza for each child.

Debonairs donated and treated the 120 beneficiaries and staff, donating 165 pizzas.

In line with the careers theme, the children were taught about the food industry and had to create a restaurant on the premises for a day as funding restricted outings. It was wonderful but even greater was the experience when Debonairs brought their flare to MoP.

Chetty and her team have been long supporters of MoP Illovo, but with the extended new project, the learning centre. This was the first time that a school theme was incorporated with their visit.

“We have taken education at MoP to a different level this year. Our motto is ‘educate, empower, engage’,” said Iris Canham, the learning centre head.

“Children will no longer see gifts from companies and the community as hand-outs, rather they must understand the deeper meaning of giving, serving and being part of a community. We strive to empower conscious leaders. Thank you Debonairs for your generosity,” said Canham.

MoP is looking for new ways to partner with people and organisations who would like to help take their motto to new heights.
