Preschoolers to perform on KykNET

2016-11-16 06:01

WOELWATER Pre-Primary School will be competing in the national “Kleuterzone” championships produced by Anthonie Boughas and will be live on KykNET Nou and Via.

Only 24 schools nationwide were selected to compete in the competition for this year. The school entered six classes with preschoolers aged between three and six to perform.

A recording was made at the school in March, but due to a problem with the filming image, the school had another performance recording done with Kleuterzone in September.

The programme was broadcast in October and three classes were voted in by the public to compete in the nationals, which takes place this Saturday in Pretoria.

In total 65 preschoolers were selected to perform, but unfortunately only 19 pupils have the funds to make the trip.

Woelwaters’ principal Celia van der Merwe is appealing to the public to assist more preschoolers with funding to attend this historical event.

“It will arguably be the first time in Toti’s history that a Toti pre-primary school competes in a national competition, where the children’s performance is broadcasted live on television.

“We appeal to the public to support us. It will cost R2 000 per pupil as the children will have to travel by plane with an adult to Pretoria and back. The school is sponsoring food parcels for the day and transport to and from the airport. We thought it would be too disruptive to send the children on such a long journey via bus. And because we cannot pay overnight accommodation, we need to fly in and out on the same day,” she said.

“About 700 people will be buying tickets to watch the performances. It is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the children and it would be so sad to take this opportunity away from some children as they all worked so hard. They know that the public has voted them in and that they qualified for the nationals.

“They are the only school from the province to perform. Any donation or sponsorship would be greatly appreciated,” said the principal.
