Reckless Umbumbulu taxi driver held in custody

2017-03-08 06:01

A 38-YEAR-OLD taxi driver from Umbumbulu appeared in the Amanzimtoti court on February 15 on five counts of reckless and negligent driving.

This follows an incident where the accused unlawfully failed to stop at a roadblock on the M35 and continued driving even after being pursued by police officers.

The accused drove in a manner that endangered other road users and his own passengers while he was being pursued.

The accused then reportedly jumped out of his moving taxi, which was filled with passengers, in an attempt to evade the police.

This resulted in his taxi colliding with three pedestrians after he had fled the vehicle.

The accused is in custody pending a formal bail application on March 6.
