ON Friday, 5 February Galleria Mall celebrated the relaunch of its ice rink, which opened in December 2015.

“The ice rink had a mini revamp costing R500 000 two years ago.
“Last year, we started from scratch, gutted the premises to the ground and invested R14 million to achieve the new vibey and more attractive look, improved ice quality, enhanced refrigeration and higher quality barriers to increase efficiency,” said Galleria Mall general manager, Kurt Hoggan.

The new 500-seater ice rink has a fully equipped skate shop where customers can rent or buy skates, a tuck shop and lockers for safe keeping and it is open to hire for birthday parties and private functions.

“I am pleased with the end result which boasts state-of-the-art finishes. We are a family orientated mall and the ice rink is an extension that offers shoppers affordable entertainment for hours.”

Due to the improved quality of the ice and the arena, the ice rink can now be used for figure skating events.

The Toti Seals Figure Skating Club prepared routines to represent KwaZulu-Natal nationally and internationally later this year and entertained guests at the launch.

Makayla Brown (16) started at age six and besides representing the province at nationals, her goal is to skate in the Olympics.

Chelsea Jacobs (13) also started skating at six and skated in the Rooster Club in Paris, France.

Evelien Valentine (57) has represented KwaZulu-Natal in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and last year at Galleria.

Meagan Tancrel’s (12) goal is to skate in the Olympics and has represented KZN in all of the above competitions.

Galleria Mall also presented tenant awards at the relaunch to their Anchor Tenant Year – Woolworths, National category - @Home and winning Line Store (privately owned store), Lee.
