THE KZN Lifesaving Master Championships were held at Battery Beach by Pirates Surf Lifesaving Club.

“As the senior lifeguards become masters, the competition becomes fierce among competitors who have been battling it out since Nipper days.
“Master members like Mike Thompson and Leslie Donald (aka Chetty) have been competing against the Durban and South Coast clubs since the earlier seventies,” PRO Henk Vermooten said.

He said surf specialists Jacques Coetzee, Jono McIntosh, Brett Hadiaris and Gary O’Connor were victorious in surf swim, board and surf ski, while masters of flags Mike Whiting and Llewellyn Veldsman once again showed how it’s done on the beach.
