FROM 25 November to 10 December, South Africa will follow the 16 Days of Activism against Women and Child Abuse campaign.

South Africa is rated the highest in the world when it comes to women and child abuse. There is an estimated 500 000 rape cases every year and only one in every nine are reported.

Sadly, in today’s times almost every child is exposed to some form of abuse. We need to ensure the safety of our children’s lives and make sure we are aware and do not turn a blind eye.

Sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse (bullying) can all lead to substance abuse as a way for the victim to cope majority of the time. The victims may turn to drinking or drug use to numb their emotional pain or just as a form of escape. It’s time we let the children know that they are not alone in this cruel world and be there to help them.

It is disgusting how humans have become. Take a stand. Children can’t stand up for themselves. Don't let them grow up with scars that haunt them for the rest of their lives and damage their chances of freedom and happiness , break the silence. During these 16 days I pledge to speak for those who can’t speak. What will you do?

Help us to help them
About 80% of children who die as a result of abuse are under the age of four, we all can make a difference, doesn't matter how small. Do this by joining the Anti-abuse Biker’s Breakfast, all welcome not only bikers.

A mass ride will take place on Sunday, 6 December from Arbour Crossing 9.15am to the Dutch Club, Bluff. There will be raffles, hampers, give-aways, lucky draws, breakfast (R40), music and guest speakers.

Help us to make their lives easier to put a smile on their faces for this festive season.

We will be raising funds for Against Substance Abuse and Bobbi Bear, 10am at the Dutch Club, Tara Road, Bluff. - Bianca Holman.
