Toti toddler critical after near-drowning

2017-01-11 06:01

AT 11.24am on Thursday, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a near-drowning in Athlone Park.

Reports from the scene indicate that the father found his two-year-old son floating in a swimming pool.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the child to be in a critical condition with shallow breathing after the father had resuscitated the boy.

“Paramedics treated the child and assisted with ventilation en route to a nearby hospital where a medical team was standing by to treat the child,” Chris Botha, Netcare 911 Media Liaison Officer said.

“This has been the fourth two-year-old child this season who fell into a swimming pool.

“Children disappear very quickly from your sight and for this reason we advise people to cover the swimming pool with a SABS-approved net, or to fence the pool in to prevent such a tragedy,” Botha added.
