A SUNRISE photo taken on Amanzimtoti Main Beach by Michelle Diamond is the May winner of the Sapphire Coast Tourism (SCT) Photo Competition under the theme “Your most amazing photo along the Sapphire Coast Region”.

“I am a runner and with our early morning training we get to experience the most amazing sunrises.

“We also volunteer at our local Parkrun. On this particular morning, we arrived at Toti Main Beach for our volunteers run to one of the most beautiful sunrises we had ever seen, that perfect moment needed to be captured. We are so lucky to live on the coast and have this right on our doorstep,” said Diamond.

She said she has always enjoyed taking photographs, but more so in the past year.

The winning photograph was taken at 6am on a Saturday.

“My usual camera is a Nikon D5000, but this photograph was actually taken with my cell phone camera, a snap-and-go shot really. It just shows how stunning the sunrise was - no settings or filters needed, just pure nature’s beauty.”

Diamond recently started documenting more special moments with friends and family, animals, nature and anything that inspires her.

“When you experience great loss, you realise life is way too short and you just need to enjoy every moment. I’d like to look back one day and relive all those moments through my photographs.”

Aspiring photographers are invited to enter the competition via the Sapphire Coast Photo Comp Facebook page.

The theme for June is “Sapphire Coast Winter Wonders”’.

“The theme includes, but is not limited to, photos of aloes, sardines, whale watching, surf and coastal living,” said Sapphire Coast Tourism chairperson, Monique Botha.
