SAPPHIRE Coast Tourism (SCT) proudly presented the Sapphire Sizzling Summer 2017 campaign during our popular holiday season.

“This year’s programme was divided into three beach beaches, Amanzimtoti Main Beach, Baggies Beach and Winklespruit Main Beach – to offer “fun in the sun” to a bigger crowd or audience compared to previous years,” SCT chairperson, Romy Wenzel said.

Wenzel said the voluntary committee had their work cut out towards setting up the programme, liaising with businesses and NPOs to sponsor prizes, vouchers and to assist with promotional activities, setting up and the removal of stages at Toti Main Beach and liaising with authorities, for instance FESMAC meetings, beach management, Metro and Durban Tourism.

Further tasks included arranging posters and pamphlets to be printed (not forgetting the designing and distribution); maintaining of branding equipment, including distribution to relevant beaches and taking care of public liability to ensure all beachgoers participating in SCT beach activations are covered.

The committee sourced deejays that offer a reliable and decent service to the public or community and liaised with Stranddiens, the group in charge of Amanzimtoti Beach activations, many months in advance and updating SCT Coasters via social media and local press and much more, all on a voluntary basis.

“Importantly, the committee would like to thank all sponsors for making the holiday programme a little more special. From the Miss Sapphire Coast Beauty Competition, Mr Boepens, beach volleyball, touch rugby, soccer, boeresport, face-painting, puppet show, sandcastle-building, treasure hunt, egg-throwing competition, karaoke and so much more, what more can holidaymakers ask for,” Wenzel said. She said Sapphire Coast Tourism is delighted to have received positive feedback from the public, thankfully mentioning that plenty of fun was had.

The committee appeals to others, individuals and/or businesses, to get involved in tourism in our region as the planning for the upcoming Easter Holidays is already on the go.

The more participation, the better the programme, and hopefully the more holidaymakers who will make the Sapphire Coast their preferred holiday destination throughout the year.

“Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude to Awie Pienaar, SCT events liaison, for his awesome participation at Toti Main Beach and all committee members who worked very hard throughout the season for putting this family fun programme together, after all, a voluntary service to be super proud of,” Wenzel added.
