Unprecedented heat wave coming

2016-01-06 06:00

THE Department of Meteorological Services advises the public of an eminent unprecedented heat wave expected to prevail on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 January. This unprecedented heat wave is expected to break some records.
Temperatures are expected to reach maximums of between 40°C and 43°C. However, the heat wave is expected to ease and see temperatures dropping slightly by about 2°C over most parts of the country from Saturday, 9 January onwards.

Notwithstanding these, isolated thunderstorms are expected to occur with a temperature dropping effect at some places.

The department therefore advises the public to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from these adverse weather conditions. These measures may include among others:

• Drink more water regardless of your activity level.

• Avoid prolonged stay in the sun and if possible stay iin the shade.

• Protect yourself from the sun by wearing a wide-brimmed hat or umbrella.

The department will keep monitoring the conditions, and will update accordingly. - Supplied.
