Vehicle break-in suspects in custody

2017-01-11 06:02

ON 29 December, 2016 at 11am, four black males were apprehended in Warner Beach.

“A tip-off was received from a member of the community, who recognised the vehicle driving past him as being the vehicle (red Polo Sedan, with four occupants) reported to have been used in various cases, including theft of motor vehicles and attempted theft of motor vehicles in the greater Amanzimtoti area,” said SAPS PRO Captain Charlene van der Spuy.

“The information was sent out via radio to the various armed response units in the area. Members of the Metro Police patrolling Warner Beach, spotted the car and indicated for the driver to pull over,” Captain Van der Spuy said.

The occupants were black males - Sabelo Dladla (22), Innocent Tebego Lombo (23), Zolani Eddie Mbele (21) and Nkululeko Mbhele (21).

“The car was searched and a bag containing motor vehicle break-in implements was found, which included a computer box, remote jammer, diagnostic tool, et cetera.

“It was established that the vehicle the suspects were using, was not reported stolen, but belonged to a rental company. With the assistance of members of SAPS, CCPO and the ET Armed Response Unit, the suspects were arrested and taken to Amanzimtoti Police Station,” Captain Van der Spuy said.

A case of possession of vehicle break-in equipment was opened. All four were charged and appeared in the Amanzimtoti Magistrate’s Court on 30 December, 2016. The case was postponed for further investigation and possible linkage to previous reported cases. The suspects remain in custody.

“The management of Amanzimtoti SAPS applauds the community member involved for his vigilance and quick response in ensuring the arrest of these suspects. Community members are urged to report any suspicious vehicles or activity in the area and work with SAPS and other armed response units in the fight against crime,” Captain Van der Spuy said. - Supplied.
