CARA Noble, from the Cancer Association of South Africa, visited the Better Together Network at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 18.

Noble complimented the network, saying this opportunity for non-profit organisations to network is streaks ahead and is needed in other areas.

“Our referral system is how we survive and CANSA has to have a referral system.”

Noble said a big part of CANSA’S role is education and creating awareness around the disease, right through to referrals for medical care. All the costs are carried by CANSA from public donations.

The Better Together Network handed over puff cushions made through their project to CANSA.

Assisting in making the puff cushions were Sharon-Ann Theron (CANSA Amanzimtoti ambassador), Dalene Oosthuizen (Bikers Bread Basket), women from Turning Point and the Amanzimtoti Quilters Guild.

The Better Together network thanks its sponsors for goods-in-kind donations towards the project - Christine Makepeace – material, Amanzimtoti Methodist Church Women’s Institute - pillow filling, fabric and batting, Pam Freeman from Inenekazi Projects - funds to buy and service a training sewing machine, and Dr Thilo Moodley - funds for cotton, needles, batting and filling and anonymous donors of fabric off-cuts.
