WITH the the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign under way, Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare is in the process of training community members.

The campaign is held from November 25 to December 10 every year, which raises awareness about the negative impact that violence and abuse have on women and children.

“Our programme is an AECI-funded initiative and programme and is designed to provide information about causes of domestic violence, as well as the problems and difficulties experience by affected women and children,” senior social worker, Sandra Govender said.

PROGRAMME:

• encourages communities to work together;

• develops understanding and empathy; and

• teaches ‘know your rights – don’t look away’.

The public can support the 16 Day campaign by wearing a white ribbon during the 16 day period. The white ribbon is a symbol of peace and shows the commitment of the wearer to never commit or condone violence against women or children.

For further information, contact Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare Society at 2 Hall Road, Warner Beach, 4126 or phone 031 916 2274 or 031 916 3007.
