The RCS Guguleth Athletics Club recently embarked on an initiative to buy a pair of running shoes for their junior athletes.

The idea was to approach some of the members to sponsor a child. The idea was tested at first with some of the doctors in the club.

Club chairman Thobile Ndzube said he was surprised when the idea was “wholeheartedly supported” by everyone.

“Ïn no time I had 30 pairs of running shoes in front of me,” he said.

“It is important to state that as a club we do not provide shoes to our athletes but through initiatives like these, we would strive to make a difference to our kids and members,” he said.

With the success of the initiative, the club will surely extend this to the wider members to see if there are any more members who can support those who are not well off.

“We strive to alleviate any pressures that some of our athletes may encounter. We also challenge anyone out there who has anything similar in their respective companies to contact us so that we can link up and make a difference. We can build a nation together by doing things on our own and not wait until the government realize that it is election time and let me be closer to my people,”hhe said. The club is challenging anyone wanting to make a change in their lives to join them. Last year the club handed out theit first tertiary bursary of R20 000 to Nokuthula Gulwa.

“This year we are also pleased to announce that we have identified Mandihlume Dotwana as our recipient,” he said.
