Gospel artists, pastors and music fans gathered at the Artscape Theatre Centre for the second annual Cape Town Victory Gospel Music Awards on Friday night.

The auditorium was packed to capacity on the night

and was attended by Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies and government communication director, Ayanda Holo.

The founder of the event, Nwabisa Lisa, told the crowd the aim of the awards was to motivate artists and make them feel appreciated.

Twelve winners were chosen from dozens of nominees.

Siphila Ngaye hitmaker Xolisa Kwinana, and gospel rapper Ambassador LJ bagged two awards each.

Xolisa won the Song of the Year and the Best Praise awards.

“This is the first award in my music career. I’m over the moon,” said excited Xolisa, who thanked all his fans who voted for him.

Pastor Mfundo Tywaku won Best Male Artist and Sange M took home the Best Female Artist award.

In other categories, gospel hip hop star Sundae won the Best Music Video category.

Awards for the Best Website went to the Angels of God group, and Best Gospel Group was won by Save Us All.

Joy Oguejiofor’s Free Forever song was named the Best Gospel Album of 2015 and Charlyn Davids bagged Best Newcomer.

Nwabisa thanked government officials for their support and churches for supporting the event and the artists.
