Bus company sponsorship helps future

It was a hive of activity at Andile Msizi community hall when hundreds of children turned up to participate in the annual Jobela Sports Day tournament.

Teams competed for top honours in netball and soccer as parents and fans shouted encouragements from the sidelines.

Tournament organiser Sandiso Dyongwana said the games were a huge success and thanked Jobela Star Bus Services owner Mighty ‘Boss’ Jobela for the support.

“We are very thankful to Mr Jobela for the help he has been giving to us. Last year he bought us soccer kits and we were thrilled,” said Dyongwana,

The netball trophy went to Future Stars, coached by Thandiwe Nkinqa, the under 10 section in soccer was won by TT Section FC, Brazil FC lorded it over in the under 12, while the biggests winners were Future Stars under-19 boys who took home a trophy plus a live sheep as a prize.

Mighty ‘Boss’ Jobela, an accomplished pool player and champion himself said he felt it was in the best interests of society to help the youngsters.

“Sport can take children out of misery and poverty and I am appealing to other business people to support initiatives like these,” said Jobela.

Community leader Tower Nkokhi Simama hailed Jobela as “a visionary and a businessman with good heart.”

“Last month we staged a boxing tournament and he was one of the first people in Khayelitsha to support us. He deserves to have his name written in gold,” said Simama.

On the day of tournament, it was encouraging to see Mrs NP Jobela watching from the sidelines with leading officials from her husband’s bus company. “Children must be kept busy and through sport we will develop leaders and community builders,” she said when handing over trophies and medals to various teams that took part
