Young creatives from various areas including Nyanga East, Philippi, The Leagues and Mitchells Plain are determined to unite artists of different platforms.

The determination has led to the establishment of The Bridge Experience which will see a string of events where these artists will exhibit their art.

The event will be officially launched on the 4th of October but will be preceded by a pre-launch event this weekend.

“We will be hosting the pre-launch at The Leagues Public Park which is opposite the Philippi Stadium on Sunday 13 September,” said Lordkolping Mbumba, the event coordinator.

Mbumba, a comedian and author, said that the initiative was the work of realisation that there needed to be something done to address the lack of unity among artists.

“Our aim is to bridge the gap between creatives in and around Cape Town created by racial and other factors that contribute towards the division of our art.

The Bridge experiences will bring together artists from across all genres and art forms. From comedy, Hip Hop, Poetry, Dance, Visual Arts, Deejays, Marimba and Drill bands,” he said.

Mbumba told City Vision that the initiative would see monthly events which will give more and more acts a platform.

“We are hoping to host and event each month going forward. Regarding the pre-launch and the launch event we will have all sorts of fun youthful activities.

“We have an open mic that is dedicated to all sorts of creative individuals to come and showcase their talents before the headline acts take the stage. And we will observe those who will move up to the main line-up from open mic.

We also have local clothing labels and business man involved in making the event a reality,” he added.

On the day Mbumba will be the host and musicians Verssel, Lurah, PsychKid, Revelation, J.A.H, Phiwe The Art and many more will be on the stage.
