Some residents told the family that they heard someone crying for help, but they were afraid to intervene as they heard two gun shots going off, but it was not clear if it was related to her death.

Sgelem said a security guard who was walking in the area saw three unidentified males putting Ninini’s body in the drain.

The would-be suspects ran towards the shacks after they were disrupted by the security guard.

Ninini’s body was found naked and had multiple open wounds on the upper body.

“Her eyes were gouged out and her teeth were removed,” Sgelem added.

Nobongile Ninini was still traumatised to speak to us when visited on Monday.

Ninini was a Grade 10 learner at Langa High School.

She left behind her parents and brother.

Her funeral arrangements were not finalised yet
