We live in a society where everything we believe and understand is fed us by the media.

We listen to the news on radio, TV or just the newspapers and we take that as is.

We trust what they write about and we go on in our daily lives without questioning. This is just a carbon copy of how we were raised, to absorb what we were fed by the elders and never to question their wisdom.

Look at how things have turned out!

We need to question and give answers to what we have become.

Those answers do not lie with me, but with thge individual affected. All I can say right now is chillax and listen to what I have to say to you today.

Has it been 21 years since the advent of our democracy; please help, I am suddenly suffering a bout of amnesia, due to the goings-on in our country.

I’m not trying to make any political statement here, but just portraying things as I see them.

I could be wrong and totally off the tangent, but if you are going to disagree with me, please be constructive so that we can all learn.

My message today and question is about setting records straight. Yes you heard me correctly. If I look around I see our people go through life as if nothing is amiss or there are no issues that need clarity. We see an older generation who knows what happened in the past not taking center stage and correcting some of the things they witnessed. Setting records straight is the duty of each and every individual who has experienced certain things in life and now it would make perfect sense if they were to come forth and give directions so that the next generation would not falter.

Some of the things that need setting out straight could be social while the bulk is political. Political issues at times tend to create problems as no one wants to be told if they go astray and they unleash their wrath. Hey if we are to create a brighter future and clear way forward for our kids with the correct historical issues people need to start educating the next generation so that the information is passed on to future generations. If we start distorting some historical facts now then we are no different from the old apartheid regime. So now having read all I tried to explain above I am sure you are not sure what I am on about.

Here are a few examples of some facts that need clarity. Through the struggle one of the forms of putting pressure to the apartheid regime was to enforce sanctions which led to some companies disinvesting in Mzantsi to show solidarity to our cause. Those companies include aboPepsi, Chev, Kodak the list is endless. Now the funniest thing is that when these companies came back like my favorite Pepsi they faced an unwelcoming and unfamiliar terrain as the next generation knew nothing about them. At times I looked like a spokesperson for Pepsi when telling some of my friends, colleagues and relatives how they should welcome Pepsi as they sided with the struggle but eish it is another losing battle/struggle as they call it “ivovo ledrink” but I managed to convince a lot of people. I am sure you also grew up only knowing that Toyota was the only car and the best car in Mzantsi. Yes they would have been as they never left the country and they were readily available. There are more stories of which I am daring the older generation to set straight before our history is distorted completely by our own doing this time around. here are a lot of political inaccuracies that also need to be corrected but I leave those to the politicians to correct. Well you heard me or my side of the story
