A Metro Police Academy student is in hot water following false claims of a hijacking incident.

Lingelethu West SAPS commissioner Colone Mike Reitz said the man had told the police that his BMW was hijacked by three gunmen on Saturday near Mngxunyeni Tavern .

“He said when a red Polo VW stopped in front of him and he was approached by three armed males who forced him out of his vehicleand one of then drove off with his vehicle towards the I-Block,” said Reitz.

The complainant then went to Lingelethu-West SAPS where he reported the alleged hijacking incident.

Later in the day a resdent of I-Block came to report that a white BMW had driven into the boundary wall of his house. While trying to sort the matter, driver sped away and did not report the accident. The student was later identified as the driver of the BMW he reported to have been hijacked.

“A case of defeating or obstructing the course of justice or laying false charges with the police is now under investigation against the BMW driver,” said Reitz warning residents not to follow suit
