Mahlobo said that Operation Fiela will be intensified to eradicate any form of criminality.

ANC MP Mandisa Matshoba, the constituency head in Nyanga and Gugulethu, was the crowd favourite as she spoke on poignant matters such as lack of response by the police.

“When the children who are involved in gang violence are attacking each other the police fail to intervene.

We have also have been receiving many complaints of drug dealers operating with impunity in our communities, but nothing happens to them,” she said to much applause.

However, cheers turned to jeers when she shifted gears and informed the crowd that the national government was doing all it can to ensure safety as opposed to the provincial government of the Western Cape.

“We want to let you know that the national government under the leadership or president Jacob Zuma was listening to the complaints and we are doing something to address the matter.

President Jacob Zuma is a listening president,” she added, as some in the crowd showed dismay at her change of tune
