Police have appealed to the community to assist in tracing a group of suspects who are terrorising businesses in Khayelitsha.

Harare station commander Colonel TJ Raboliba said about eight suspects robbed the Price Chain Supermarket in Town Two a week ago, leaving with an undisclosed sum of money.

“The suspects, all armed, held the cashiers at gunpoint and demanded cash before fleeing with cash and cigarettes,” said Raboliba.

He said in 2014 the suspects, who the police believe are operating as a group, once robbed Pep Stores approximately four times in a period of two months.

They also robbed a Hungry Lion outlet during July and August 2014.

The photos that are retrieved from the stores’ surveillance cameras have shown that the same suspects are operating in these business robberies.

Police investigating units have collected screen grabs from other stores in Khayelitsha , Lingelethu West and the Harare policing precinct. Police video footage shows the same armed group robbing Chris Hani train station cashiers and subsequently shooting dead a security guard and making off with his firearm.

In that incident two commuters were also injured. “We are requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the suspects,” he added.
