Internationally-celebrated Capetonian Afro-fusion band Abavuki is set to light the European festival stage circuit on fire later this year, as they once again embark on an international tour, performing at various European music festivals from June till August.

The band, originally from Langa, features eight members who have perfected the art of performing with marimbas, percussion, great traditional vocals and brass musical instruments on stage.

Their music, which is influenced by kwaito, jazz, traditional rhythms and also afrobeat, will be experienced by thousands European music festival goers, as they fly the SA flag high on the various musical stages.

Some of the confirmed festivals this talented group of musicians will be performing at include: EthnoPort Festival in Poznan and the Afrika Festival in Hertme (both voted as one of the Top 25 international festivals by Songlines Magazine), the Respect Music Festival in Prague and the Colours of Ostrava Festival.

In total, Abavuki is set to perform at nine music festivals throughout the European Summer season from mid-June till the first week in August, in Poland, the Netherlands and Germany to name a few.

According to the band’s long-time manager, Beverley Gough, the musical group is exciting to show their European and international fans some of their recent musical recordings and influences.

“The guys are thrilled to have secured slots at these amazing festivals; being on the same stage as people like Salif Keita, Bjork and St. Vincent is a huge honour. It is going to be tremendous to show them what South Africa can do.”

Having showcased at Womex 2014 (The World Music Expo) in Spain last year, where they surprised everyone with their explosive and energetic performance, the band is aiming to do the same during the European summer season this year – ensuring the SA music scene is taking over the global stage in style
