A local poet who is yet again nominated for a national award is hoping you can help him be third time lucky.

Mnqobi Madlala, 24, is a popular poet who among the nominees in the Best Creative Artist Category in the South African Awards.

The awards will be taking place in Pretoria on Saturday 5 December This is not the first time that this Zulu poet originally from Bergville have been nominated.

Last year he was nominated as one of the best poet at the Satma Awards last year but he was beaten to it by Ndumiso Maphumulo. In 2013 he was also nominated at the Hip Hop Kaslam Award and he was unsuccessful.

He was, however, crowed the most outstanding performer at the Zabalaza Arts Festival last year. “I started poetry when I was very young and have seen some success and achievement but I would really love to have something tangible,” he said.

He said he would really love to come back with the award as it would be the cherry on his long road in spoken word.

The SA Awards celebrate and recognise the quality and diversity of the country’s music, acting, sports, TV and radio programs.

The main aim of the event is to

reward well known and upcoming artists, actors, individuals, models who have made it in the industry of the entertainment at large.

Some of the nominated individuals includes the likes of Isidingo’s Khabonina Qhubeka, Gospel artist Solly Moholo and organisations such as Musina FM.

“Going forward I will continue with my art but it would be really nice to have something to show for all these years as well as encouragement for the future,” said he said.

Madlala, a third year economist at the University of the Western Cape, says that the he hoping to complete his studies and further study art.
