For the first time ever some of the most talented deep house producers and artists in Cape Town will be featured in a compilation. This milestone for local artists will see the digital release of the compilation on Friday 26 June.

The compilation, titled Deep House Sounds and mixed by Dj Mizz is the result of months of hard work by the Black Mango Artist management.

Black Mango manages local artists such as Dj Dilo Exclusiv and SirVincent and has been working behind the scenes to collect the best of local music in the deep house scene.

Black Mango’s Thando DeepConsoul Kleinbooi said that they solicited more than 50 artists but only 13 made the cut.

“We have really gone to search for the music that is not easily accessible like finding the guys who produce music from their bedroom studios.

Cape Town has long been known for its vibrant electronic music scene but has yet to establish a township movement to rival its Johannesburg and Durban counterparts,” said Kleinbooi.

He said that they felt that the township music scene has largely been ignored by the rest of Cape Town and until recently there was very little integration between the two musical worlds.

“This coupled with a divided and fragmented township scene has caused things to progress very slowly.

It is for this reason that Black Mango was inspired to bring a group of township musicians together for the first time to form one unified voice that represents Cape Town township music,” he said.

The list of artists that have made the cut includes recognised artists such as Dj Fosta and Siphe Tebeka and the unknowns like Skinny Deep and Didadunjana.

The compilation is mixed by Dj Mizz who has gained national popularity after the release of his song with Rabs Vhafhuwi titled Count Your Blessings. The song is currently making its way up the MTV Base music charts

“Our aim is to make sure that these guys can be elevated to that same level because they do have the talent and the capacity. All they needed was a platform and that is what we are doing,” said Kleinbooi who is also an artist manager.

The compilation will be available for sale on various music portals online.
