Residents of Bhekela Ndilale temporary relocation area kicked out 37 families for backing an ANC ward councillor the community had rejected.

These residents allegedly fell out with Councillor Ellese Depouch over the issue of ongoing development.

They also accused him of corruptly allocating houses to friends and outsiders.

The evicted families were accused of sabotaging the community’s resolution by siding with the councillor, even though they had declared support for the community’s resolution against Depouch.

Community leader Vido Gidi said residents got furious when Depouch announced a second move to a new relocation area site in Delft, instead of getting their promised RDPs.

“We still stick to our resolution that we demand RDPs, not another relocation area. We condemn those who support the councillor,” Vido said.

The evicted families spent two days at the local police station after they were chased out of the area on Wednesday night.

Depouch apparently moved them to another government prefab settlement in Delft on Saturday.

Nomelikhaya Noza (43) said: “The councillor lied to us. He previously promised that we would only spend six months in these cold structures when we were relocated from Crossroads in 2005.”

Depouch said he considered the residents’ complaints as senseless because it’s the Western Cape government that allocates houses
