The life of one of the eminent South African missionaries and composer of hymns, Tiyo Soga, will be celebrated in song on Saturday October 3 at Langa Stadium.

Soga was the first black South African to be ordained as Presbyterian Church minister in Southern Africa in 1856.

One of the Tiyo Soga Commemoration organisers, Xolisa Futshane said the event is the highglight of the congregation.

“The Tiyo Soga Memorial Congregation will be celebrating the life and times of Reverend Tiyo Soga under the Theme: Lizalis’ Indinga Lakho.

“This is really an important occasion in our church history as we will be making a statement within and outside our denomination that 2016 should be a year in which the church celebrates 160 years of Reverend Tiyo Soga’s ordination, having been ordained on the 10th December 1856,” she said.

A memorial lecture will be delivered by Dr Bongani Blessing Finca who is also of the commissioners at the Independent Electoral Commision.

This will be followed by a massive gospel show featuring top dogs in the industry, the likes of Veliswa Skeyi; Lusanda Spiritual Group; Bethusile; Hlengiwe Mhlaba; Solly Moholo; Dumi Mkokstad; Power of God; Rev Nkomfa Mkabile ; Sphesihle Butho , Yolanda Vutela and local groups.

Popular radio personalities Mafa Bavuma and Putco Mafani will be the programme directors at the show.

Tickets are on sale at the Computicket and the public is advised no cash will be accepted at the stadium. Adult tickets cost R150, children R100 and VIP R300.
