Siyasanga Cape Town Theatre Company is hosting a play reading which will be held at Guga S’thebe, in Langa, on Sunday 21 November.

The theatre company promotes the creative arts specifically New Writing Programme and performance. Siyasanga’s New Writing Programme and the Black Writers Forum accept new plays from everyone. The plays are read by professional writers and when the script is with potential work, they form a working relationship with those writers, mentoring them and helping them to a point where the play is ready for the professional stage.

They had two shows this year which show caseed new works at The Rosebank Theatre. The first play which was read on October 24 was called “3 is a crowd” was written by a young writer Pfarelo from Johannesburg the following reading was on 31 October and it was titled “My name is Catherine” written by Rafiek Marmorn a well known writer from Cape Town.

The last reading for this year is “Ingubo emhlophe” written by Gcobani Zatu. The play looks at the three traditional white blankets that are worn and used in traditions.

The white blanket with red stripes worn in initiation rituals, the white blanket with black stripes by traditional slaughterers and the white blanket with black stripes that is worn by traditional healers.

The play looks at the problems that have become associated with these three traditions. Gcobani Zatu is a stage manager at Artscape Theatre having graduated from Artscape’s Technical Training Programme two years ago.

The reading takes place on Saturday 21st November at Guga S’thebe Arts and Culture Centre at 3pm. Admission is free and all are welcome. Sitting is limited to 60 and those who wish to attend are urged to phone Fatima Dike at 0764499896 to book a seat.
