Two youth are determined to add an unusual flavour in the entertainment environment in the form of laughter, in Gugulethu.

Lundi Tsotso and Kholekile Sompaza, the directors of Siqhamo Media, have seen a steady growth in the number of fans who have an ear for comedy since they launched in the area in November last year.

The stand-up comedy show is known as Gugulethu Comedy Night and it is staged in different venues locally.

Tsotso said their first show which was at GQ Lounge, in NY116, started slowly with only a small audience attending but things have now changed for the better.

There has been a marked increase in attendance.

“We decided to start the stand-up comedy events after we noticed there is nothing new in the area when it comes to entertainment. People are always repeating the same thing in entertainment. We want to expose residents to the kind of entertainment which was never a part of their lives. We started slowly, but now we gained a huge response and it is growing,” Tsotso said.

Shaun Jonas from the area is the main comedian for the shows and they are also targeting to attract more local comedians who wish to be part of the show.

“Our aim is to work with local comedians. We are open to anyone from Gugulethu who is interested in joining us. We want to bring out quality comedians. We making an option in entertainment for residents who want to relax and relieve stress by laughing,” he added.

They have also frequently asked the services of other comedians from around the city to be part of the shows previously.

Siqhamo Media also do marketing, branding, graphic design, websites and photography.

Their events are held every first Wednesday on the month and the venue is announced days before the event.

The tickets are pre-sold for R40 and R60 at the gate.

The information about their next event will be announced on their Facebook or Twitter page which is Siqhamo Media
