What kind of a man do you see yourself

When a woman says, “You are not a man!” What does she mean? She means you don’t love her. You don’t look after her. You are not responsible.

You do not take care of the family. You spend your money with prostitutes!

This word ‘man’ keeps on ringing in my head. Last week I saw a man riding a bike into a mall. He was a middle-aged man. I was coming out.

He was coming in. The security guard said, “Come in, baba.”

I thought it was a joke. I thought there was some kind of a movie going on. But after a couple of minutes or so, I saw him coming out.

He was smiling from ear to ear. He came to where bicycles are kept.

I was there, unlocking mine. He said, “They don’t want me to come in with my bike.” Probably a responsible security guard chased him away.

Not the one I saw. “Of course they don’t!” I said.

Me and my big mouth. I continued. “But why should you ride in with a bike? Don’t you see what you are doing? You are telling the young ones that it’s okay to do what you are doing. You are an adult!” I said.

I did not know this man, but there I was attacking him. I was livid.

“You know what will happen next time?” I said. “You will see them riding in with scooters.” I was being lenient.

I wanted to give it to him. I wanted to tell him you would see horses and donkeys being led in. You will see the destruction of this mall.

All started by one man. And what will happen to people working there?

They will all lose their jobs. Investors will go to where people are responsible. Or, shall I say, to where there are men? I don’t know what is wrong with us. We don’t seem to like good things!

You hear people say, “Black people don’t like good things.” These are black people saying things about black people. It is not whites. It is we. We say it because we see it. We are not being told.

We live with it. Everyday we witness it. It is part of our lives. When a black person does something wrong, we should appreciate it. Or, keep quiet. We should not criticize. We should not say, “It is wrong.”

Otherwise they will deal with us. But to my astonishment, I was surprised to see the expression on that man’s face. It dawned on him that what he was doing was wrong. He was man enough to acknowledge his mistakes.

But others do not. They make fun of their critics. They ridicule them.

Are they man enough to see their wayward ways and acknowledge them?

And say they are wrong? And repent? Or, are they not? Stay positive
