A call for men to man up

2018-08-23 06:00

Ntsikelelo Dada is calling on all men to come out in their numbers and plan to establish an organisation for men.

This Sunday (26 August), men will meet to discuss a way forward as they try to change the way men are currently being viewed in communities.

Dada told City Vision that nowadays men are branded as rapists, murderers and many other social ills that beset communities, and for most men in communities this is not fair.

“This has to come to an end,” Dada said. “Such a body will create a platform for men to speak out, which many are inclined not to do. We want to create an environment where men can cry and share their challenges without being judged.”

Dada explained he has had this idea since last year, prompted by listening to a radio programme in which a woman complained about her husband’s treatment of her.

He felt an environment was needed where men could be empowered through consolidation of good, sound collective values.

“We are calling on young men from the age of 16 upwards to come and join us,” Dada said. “Young men are part of the problem in our society and we ought not to leave them behind.”

He hopes such an organisation gets off the ground and even expands to other areas.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 14:00 and will be held either at the Lwandle Community Hall or at Khanyolwethi Secondary School.
