A crown for Cape Royal

2018-10-25 06:02

Cape Royal FC finally received the league trophy and prizes as the champions of the Helderberg Local Football Association’s (LFA) top league.

The team’s prizes included a brand new playing kit sponsored by the Nomzamo Community Trust.

The official prize giving was held at Lwandle Clubhouse last Friday 19 October and was attended by Linda Pistoli, deputy president of Safa Cape Town and former Helderberg LFA chairperson. “We thank the Nomzamo Community Trust for sponsoring the winners with the kit. The league always lacked sponsorship and we appreciate this generous donation,” Pistoli said.

“Congratulations to the champions. I must add that it’s unfortunate that we are only handing over the trophy now.”

Mzwandile Nkohla, a representative of the Nomzamo Community Trust, said the Trust decided to get on board as a way of further building relationships with the community. “This sponsorship is opening the engagement on how we can partner with the local soccer league and we wish the championship team all the best in the play-offs,” he related.

Awarding Cape Royal FC their prizes and trophy was delayed by a protest launched by league’s runner-up, Two For Joy FC (“D-Day turns into fist fight”, City Vision, 4 October).

However, the case was dismissed and Cape Royal was named the league champion (“Royals claim top spot”, City Vision, 18 October).

Cape Royal captain Andile Ali said his team’s hard work paid off this season. “It was a long season and we worked very hard,” he said. “We thank the management team for being with us, and I hope we do well on the play-offs.”

Mzukisi Madondile, Helderberg LFA chairperson, wished the team well for the upcoming play-offs. “Now you are going to take on the best teams in the region,” he said. “If you go all the way you will battle against the best in the SAB League.

“I am confident you will make the Helderberg proud.”

The Cape Royal charges have already played three play-off matches and have performed really well in these encounters, winning two and drawing one. They will play the group leaders at the weekend in a must-win game.
