LETTER: A nation in throes of crime

2017-03-23 06:03

The recent cash heist at OR Tambo International Airport and the computer theft at Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng’s offices bring home the reality of crime in our country.

Unless border control measures are reviewed and improved, it won’t be surprising if the Union Buildings are the next target.

We have become a nation gripped by anxiety. Lawmakers will start taking this matter of crime seriously now that it bites closer to them. Whilst politicians have bodyguards, the denizens have to fend for themselves. It’s high time that the government plays a serious role in combatting crime, even the call to have death penalty back.
