Ajax loss may translate to gains

Ajax Cape Town are gearing up for the potential loss of talent at the end of the campaign after confirming the signature of Kenyan international playmaker Ali Abondo.

The 26-year-old arrived from Gor Mahia on a two-year deal and could yet make his debut in the current campaign if his work permit is received on time.

With attacking midfielder Bantu Mzwakali already stating he is keen to leave Ikamva at the end of the campaign, Ajax have moved swiftly to secure a replacement.

Abondo is the second signing announced by the club in recent weeks after they also agreed to a deal with Zimbabwe defender Erick Chipeta, who currently plays for Chippa United.

The club has also promoted youngsters Masilake Phohlongo, Darren Johnson and Seirgio Kammies to the first team from their development, with coach Roger de Sa suggesting there will be more to follow.

“It’s a good feeling to finally sign for Ajax Cape Town,” Abondo said.

“This is what I’ve always dreamt of. I consider Ajax as one of the best club’s in the PSL.

Even in Kenya, people know Ajax Cape Town and rate the club highly. “I will work hard to make my stay here successful. I’ve worked hard on my capabilities, so it’s time for me to take the next step in my career.”
