The bragging rights for Cape Town’s best team is up for grabs on Saturday when Ajax Cape Town and Cape Town City meet in a local derby fro their PSL-fixture.

Cape Town City debuted in the Premier Soccer League in 2016 and has walloped Ajax on all four occassions of their encounter.

The Citizens, as a result, currently hold the bragging rights.

At the beginning of this month, Ajax has acquired the services of Muhsin Ertugral as coach and it is well-known that he believes in youth development.

His impact since taking over the reins was visible on Saturday when Ajax beat Platinum Stars 3-0 at the same ground.

In the past, Ajax launched attack after attack with the goalmouth gaping, but could not slot any goals in the back of the net.

Against Platinum Stars, Ajax were clinical, like the Ajax of old soccer lovers had come to love.

Citizens Coach Benni McCarthy and his charges were not so lucky when they took on Free State Stars in Bethlehem. The homeside thrashed them 1-0 and it was back to the drawing board.

Other teams in the PSL will tell you that you cannot just rock up in Bethlehem and expect to walk away with points. You have to work for it!

With this loss still fresh in City’s mind, Ajax will be careful not to be over-confident and think the encounter will be a walk in the park.

Ertugral is well-known for starting young players for their pace and hunger to score points against teams.

Lack of experience in these young players is sometimes the surprise factor against the older and experienced players of other teams.

The question on everyone’s lips is, who is going to be the boss of the town. Will it be the young gun (McCarthy) or the old fox (Ertugral), with all the experience?

McCarthy is still the top goalscorer for Bafana Bafana and knows how and from where to score goals. Ertugral is an experienced coach locally and internationally, especially in his home country, Turkey.

To add to McCarthy’s woes, he has lost the likes of Lebogang Manyama, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Robyn Johannes.

Manyama is currently playing in Turkey, while Majoro and Johannes were recalled by Gavin Hunt to play for Bidvest Wits.

Both were on loan to City, but being at the bottom of the log, the defending champions of the PSL title, needs them to climb the ladder for the latter part of the season.

With the departure of Manyama and Johannes, City has also lost captains.

Ajax ‘imported’ Fagrie Lakay from Supersport United and Tendai Ndoro to strengthen their goal chances.

On Saturday, all roads lead to Cape Town Stadium and the expectation is that it will be filled to the brim as part of this spectacle in Cape Town. The game kicks off at 15:00 in Cape Town Stadium.
