Growing up in an era of gangsterism in his formative years could not put a damper of the dreams of one young lad to be an auto mechanic.

That is a brief introduction to the story Anda Melane, from New Crossroads.

He had vowed from an early age not to be influenced or distracted by this toxic environment.

He wanted to be exemplary to other young men and women in the area in order to change any negative perceptions of his area, for the better.

Against all odds, Melane has built Andaz Auto Mechanics, which specialises in Audi and Volkswagen vehicles.

He started working from his backyard in New Crossroads.

Melane is now running a successful Auto Mechanic business, based in Philippi on Lansdowne Road.

His father was a well-known mechanic in his day, and was also involved in the taxi business, which is where a young Anda learned the ropes.

Anda is even proud to announce that he has been running his business for the past 11 years and the business is growing by leaps and bounds.

In his quest to know more, he enlisted the help of the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), who introduced him to a Business Advisor, who, in turn, conducted a thorough diagnostic assessment on viability of the business.

Turns out the business was not attracting enough customers and it needed a re-gassing machine. Seda assisted the business with a set of re-gas machine which include an alignment machine and two tone crane engine lifters.

Seda Branch Manager, Kuhle Mhlongo said: “Seda assisted Anda with mentorship coaching and the machine through our technology programme. Seda created this special programme to manage different business incubators, facilitate technology transfer and quality interventions.

The aim of this programme is to promote and facilitate the transfer of technology which is appropriate, effective and competitive, to a small enterprise.”

“This is also linked to our drive to support township businesses and entrepreneurs, which need a suitable platform and environment to succeed, as lack of access to funding and markets often dampen the potential growth of local start-ups and township enterprises,” Mhlongo concluded

Anda said he “was greatful”.
