Lwandle police detectives are seeking public assistance in locating suspects involved in the torching of an old Asla building situated in Broadlands Road, Strand.

It is alleged the incident occurred on Friday 13 September about 01:15.

It is believed four suspects entered the premises in the early hours of that morning and threw three petrol bombs after breaking in through a window.

The security personnel guarding the premises that evening heard a blast and went to investigate, and saw windows damaged in one of the rooms as well as fire.

“Three petrol bombs were found on the scene but two did not explode,” said the police’s Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama.

“A case of malicious damage to property was opened and is being investigated by Lwandle police.”

He said the investigation is looking at all avenues, including the possibility that the incident is related to a previous protest that occurred in the Lwandle area.

Gama urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Sakhi Salakuvunyelwa on 021 845 2060.

The police are offering a reward to anyone who comes forward with positive information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
